Tilmann Krumrey selected for Chianciano Biennale 2026

Tilmann Krumrey has been selected to participate in the Chianciano Biennale 2026 at the Chianciano Art Museum in Tuscany. The exhibition will take place from 15 to 29 August 2026.

Krumrey will present Man-Wo-Man, a sculptural body in which male and female do not appear as separate or opposing identities, but as interconnected possibilities within a single form.

His work is based on the conviction that art needs freedom not as a privilege of the artist, but as a condition of its power to reveal what is not yet known. The human figure and materials such as bronze, wood and stone connect his practice to art as a fundamental human dialogue spanning millennia. Its contemporary character lies not in a demonstrative break with this history, but in new questions and newly won formal answers.

In the sculptural process, the artist’s position changes. He begins as an author, becomes an observer as the form develops, and finally a witness when the made object locks into coherence and stands before him as an autonomous presence. Krumrey calls this passage from possibility into presence manifestation.
